Kim Barkwell, sustainable agriculture program manager for the County of Wetaskiwin and Leduc County talks about the importance of ensuring farming is environmentally sustainable so it will remain for generations to come. She explains the Sustainable Agriculture Program, its goal of promoting awareness and adoption of agricultural beneficial management practices, and its partnership between the County of Wetaskiwin No. 10, Leduc County and the Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.
Barkwell explains the purpose and process for Alberta’s Environmental Farm Plan (EFP). The workbook is the basis of the EFP process and includes information about assessing natural features of the farm and management practices, as well as how to develop an action plan that addresses higher risk areas of concern.
Aaron Van Beers, agricultural foreman for Leduc County, talks about Leduc County Agricultural Services. This includes the encouragement of production, profitability and sustainability of agriculture, as well as the enforcement of several provincial Acts, like the Agricultural Pests Acts.
