AWC develops provincial-level advice for water issues that affect multiple stakeholders, and is composed of twenty four member organizations. Andre Asselin, senior manager at the Alberta Water Council (AWC) discusses their experiences in developing implementable policy advice.
Asselin explains the importance of consensus when creating policy advice, adding that the end result has to reflect the interests of the stakeholders. One must have the right people at the table; dedicated individuals who are knowledgeable in the right areas. He also highlights the importance of keeping stakeholders engaged and informed throughout the process.
Their successes include the Wetland Policy and the Sector Planning for Water Conservation, Efficiency and Productivity. This presentation was a part of the Alberta’s WPAC Summit in October of 2014, entitled Water Summit in the Valley: Innovation and Leadership in Sustainable Water Management.
