Beth Sanders, president of POPULUS Community Planning Inc and board treasurer for the Canadian Institute of Planners, compares Edmonton to five major cities in Northern Europe. The cities are assessed on how inviting they are to people during the winter months, with a focus on accessibility and outdoor winter activities. Copenhagen was noted for its extensive bike lanes, and Stockholm for its skating rink in the middle of the city.
Peter Spearney, owner and principal at PICEA Landscape Architecture Inc, continues the discussion. When considering how to make Edmonton more accessible and encourage outdoor winter activities for citizens, he concludes that Edmonton is already doing a good job at both.
This presentation was a part of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute’s Edmonton Luncheon that took place in October of 2015.
