David Picard from Clearstone Engineering Ltd. discusses the emission tests done on 6 tanks at 6 different heavy oil batteries.
In the Peace River area and the Cold Lake area, emissions measurements were performed during a tank desanding event. Casing gas emissions were measured at two sites where the casing gas was being vented. Preparation of an interim draft report about the results has been completed.
Three sets of tracer tests, and emission measurements at different tank operating temperatures were completed and discussed, as was the additional measurement of emissions during a tank desanding event. A meteorological monitoring station was set up at each site to measure wind speed and direction, and ambient temperature.
Vented gas is relatively low in non-methane hydrocarbons and there are measurable PAH emissions -- also relatively low. These were just come of the conclusions reached after the testing was completed.
