Justin Riemer, Assistant Deputy Minister for Innovation and Advanced Education, Government of Alberta, talks about the importance of collaboration, networking and research to strengthen our provincial economy.
Alberta has many benefits -- a rich resource endowment, strong government regulatory and policy framework, and a stable and fair investment climate. But we are not immune to challenges. Resource development includes harsh weather, work in remote locations along with high labour cost, and a labour shortage.
If we do not pursue natural resource development opportunities, Riemer argues, we lose potential investments, royalties, economic growth and diversification. Innovation and Advanced Education leads the path toward resource development initiatives. Their mission is to build on Alberta's strength in energy resource development by working collaboratively across government, industry and other stakeholders. Some of the projects currently underway are the Alberta Sector Summit, and An Investment Guide from Alberta Energy Industry.
