At the 2012 North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NSWA) annual general meeting, Graham Watt - Basin Planner with the NSWA - delivered a presentation about the Vermilion River watershed management plan. The municipalities in the Vermilion River watershed joined with the NSWA to develop the management plan; Watt describes the planning process and the major milestone of getting a management plan in the summer of 2012.
Issues for the Vermilion River watershed include flooding and drought, prairie wetland drainage, and major variations in flows. The relationships among wetlands, groundwater, livestock watering and waterfowl habitat are longterm and essential to landowners.
