Alberta town growing willows as an energy crop

The County of Camrose has planted willow trees next to a sewage lagoon in order to harvest the trees in future years for use in heating municipal buildings, according to this article from Canadian Biomass Magazine (reprinted from greenenergyfutures.ca) . The biomass project, done in conjunction with the Canadian Forest Service, is a way to treat waste in a way that it low-cost and has a positive impact on the environment.

More information about this type of biomass program can be found from this link to a 2012 workshop hosted by the Alberta Rural Organic Waste to Resources Network (AROWRN).
