Emissions of harmful pollutants fell in 2011, federal data show

Federal data shows that emissions of sevaral harmful pollutants decreased in 2011 from the previous year. As this CBC News report indicates, the levels for mercury, lead and cadmium were down 21-50%, due to reduced activity in smelting and oil & gas industries. Other emissions were down, but to a lesser degree than the heavy metals.
