New federal-provincial air quality deal aims to cut smog

Federal, provincial and territorial environment ministers have agreed to a new national air quality agreement this week. As reported in this CBC story, the ministers have established the first-ever national standards for air quality management. Acceptable limits for harmful pollutants will be established in the next few years, and baseline levels will be set for industry. The system is the result of five years of work by government and a coalition of industry, health and environmental groups.
