Pesticide 'contaminating' prairie wetlands: Scientist

Christy Morrissey from the University of Saskatchewan is studying the effects of neonicotinoids on prairie wetlands, including the impacts on insects and birds, and has found that there seems to be a significant negative impact. Neonics are pesticides that are becoming more common in the prairies, especially for canola. As described in this in-depth article from CBC News, concentrations of the chemical in nearby wetlands are testing at three to four times the level deemed safe for insects.
