Video - ALMS Update 2014. Presentation by Arin Macfarlane Dyer

Arin Macfarlane Dyer, Executive Director of the Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS), discusses updates to their flagship program LakeWatch.

This year LakeWatch will be monitoring 33 lakes, including lakes in provincial parks, the Beaver River Watershed, and Central Recreational Lakes such as Red Deer and Buffalo. They collect information such as: nutrients, metals, temperature and dissolved oxygen profiles, and invasive species.

Invasive plant sampling and stream monitoring are both pilot programs starting this year. The latter currently involves writing protocols for citizens who will be collecting nutrients, total suspended solids (TSS) and flow data.

ALMS also does education and outreach, which includes a monthly newsletter, school presentations, and the promotion of lake management.

This presentation was a part of the Central Alberta Recreational Lakes Forum in May of 2014.
