Part 1 of 5
David Spiess, GIS Unit, Lead Engineer, for Alberta Agriculture Food and Rural Development (AAFRD), discusses the new Alberta Soil Information Viewer (ASIV).
Targeted towards Alberta's agricultural clients - farmers, ranchers, custom operators, fertilizer dealer representatives, government and non-profit research organizations, realtors and land developers, it supplies detailed soil information. AGRASID is a digital complilation of soil survey reports in Alberta from the 1920’s to the mid-1980’s. It also allows viewers to locate farms by township or longitude and latitude, and allows them to choose the type of map to use, such as topographical or street view. It allows them to search for land by county names as well. These new features enable a better experience for the 2,600 visitors to the website each month.
This presentation was a part of the Alberta Soil Science Workshop: The Role of Soil in a Changing Climate, in February 2014.
