Dr. Dorte Koster presents the detailed monitoring program of the impact of Red Deer's treated wastewater and stormwater runoff on water quality in the Red Deer River. While the monitoring is required under the city's licence to discharge treated wastewater, the study is under the City of Red Deer's Environmental Master Plan.
The objective of the study is to enhance how Red Deer manages its water system to improve water quality in the Red Deer River. The detailed monitoring plan is described. Results from the upstream, mixing zone and downstream zones are shown and preliminary results show slight nutrient enrichment downstream of water outfalls. Future monitoring work is described.
Dr. Dorte Koster is a senior aquatic scientist with Hutchinson Environmental Sciences Ltd. Her presentation was part of the CWRA/WPAC Joint Conference, Red Deer, Alberta, March 13-14, 2013
