Marty O’Byrne is the Senior Forester in Silviculture Practice for Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD). In his presentation, he discusses the three principles derived from the land – social, economic and ecological - and the components leading to management decisions.
He weighs the benefits of doing nothing against taking action to restore forests after damage from mountain pine beetles. Silviculture, arboriculture, clear objectives and appropriate funding for recovery of natural habitats are also discussed.
This presentation was a part of fRI Research's Mountain Pine Beetle Information Exchange Forum, April 2015.
