At the Foothills Research Institute's Caribou Workshop, held in January 2012, Elston Dzus of Al-Pac presented the perspective of Alberta's forestry industry on caribou conservation. The forestry industry says the time for action is now. Also, his view is caribou conservation is a cumulative effects problem due to overlapping forestry and other operations (oil and gas) in caribou ranges. Basic caribou research is not needed rather research should answer "Is what we are doing effective for caribou conservation?"
