Erica Samis, senior manager of Forest Health and Adaptation Section in Alberta Agriculture & Forestry, discusses the history of the mountain pine beetle (MPB) in Alberta and gives an update on 2014-15.
Beginning in the early 1940s in Banff National Park, and continuing through to a small infestation in Waterton Lake National Park, she covers the history of MPB outbreaks. She also talks about MPB aerial survey results in Alberta for 2014, the changes to management zones from 2013 to 2014, and ground surveys – 16,000 sites on the ground were reached this year.
This presentation was a part of the Mountain Pine Beetle Information Exchange Forum in Edmonton, in April, 2015.
