Part 2 of 4
Paul Bedford, adjunct professor of urban & regional planning at the University of Toronto and Ryerson University, talks about the five stages of his career as a City Planner: the early years, learning years, management years, leading, and giving back.
He talks about his multiple management roles from 1981-1996, and his transition from getting things done, to getting things done through others. He discusses various things he had learned during this time, such as the huge difference that policy change can make in a city, and the importance of perseverance. He talks about the nine months he took off to travel and visit various cities and how it inspired a resurgence of energy and creativity in his career.
This presentation was a part of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute Annual Conference, entitled “Lifecycle of a Planner”, in October 2014.
