At the 2012 Mountain Pine Beetle Ecology Program workshop, hosted by the Foothills Research Institute, Ted Gooding's presentation covered the analysis and support behind regional management of mountain pine beetle infestations. The process came about as a way to help industry answer their questions about dealing with MPB spread, and was a collaborative project. The information collected led to the development of a modeling tool for decision-making, which is accessible online.
Results show different regional predictions for MPB growth and spread, with or without harvesting or management programs. The impact on infestations is greatest when harvesting and single-tree control measures are combined.
