Rory McIntosh, provincial forest entomologist and pathologist for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, provides a mountain pine beetle status report for Saskatchewan. He discusses the forest health program, including information on the core program areas, and key programs such as Dutch elm disease, and mountain pine beetle. The strategic approach, involving regulatory controls and surveillance, as well as communication and research is also addressed.
He touches on the values at risk from MPB damage, including animal habitats and forest-dependent communities. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment has many future plans, such as continuing its collaboration with Alberta, and monitoring tree baits.
This presentation was a part of the Mountain Pine Beetle Information Exchange Forum, April 2015.
