At the Foothils Research Institute's Caribou Workshop in January 2012, Christina Semeniuk - a post-doc at the University of Calgary - presented her current research. Using computerized modeling techniques, simulated caribou 'agents' move across a digital version of the Little Smoky caribou habitat, and the decisions the caribou make regarding their use of the habitat are a reflection of actual habitat use. This technique can be used as a tool to predict caribou response to habitat changes in the future.
