Video - The role of watershed management plans in municipal planning. Presentation by Bill Shaw

Bill Shaw discusses how integrated watershed management plans are implemented in Alberta through municipal development plans and bylaws. Land-use planning determines water management outcomes. The public expectation that municipal plans are guided by the recommendations made in watershed management plans need to be moderated by the reality that environment and economic considerations are only part of a municipality's development plans. WPACs have a role in assisting the public in understanding that municipal plans will not always conform to watershed plans.

Bill Shaw is a community planning consultant with BPS Consulting Ltd. He has been involved in municipal planning and watershed and lake management issues in the Red Deer River basin since the 1970's. Bill Shaw's presentation was part of the North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance's Annual General Meeting, at the Enjoy Centre, St. Albert, Alberta, June 26, 2013.
