Jim Stephenson, chief forester for Canadian Forest Products Ltd, talks about innovative stand enhancement and regeneration systems to rehabilitate Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) affected stands. In this presentation he discusses the province of Alberta mountain pine beetle strategies, the role of Forest Resource Association of Alberta (FRIAA), the status of the MPB infestation in northwest Alberta, and the project overview.
Project proposal is from Canfor, which is partnering with Canadian Wood Fibre Centre and the University of Alberta. The overall objectives are to remove the infested green attack stems and space retained stems to reduce MPB susceptibility and wildfire risk, and increase the understanding of post MPB infestation dynamics and test management options.
This presentation was a part of the Mountain Pine Beetle Information Exchange Forum from April 2014.
