Barry Gibbs, executive director for the Alberta Invasive Species Council (AISC), talks about their goals for the immediate future. This not-for-profit was formed in 2006 with a diverse board of directors and the mission to provide leadership on invasive species management. They strive to prevent zebra & quagga mussels from establishing in Alberta, promote the reduction of regulated invasive plants, and prevent prohibited noxious plants from establishing and spreading in Alberta.
He discusses how they are increasing awareness of their organization, collaborating with the horticultural industry, and focusing on getting the public to identify and report sightings of new invasive species through their new app. This presentation was a part of the Foothills Restoration Forum Annual Fall Information Session, in Claresholm, Alberta, on November 20, 2014.
