Video - Analysis of US hydraulic fracturing chemical disclosure data from FracFocus. Presentation by Dan Arthur

Dan Arthur, President and Chief Engineer at ALL Consulting, discusses U.S. Hydraulic Fracturing Chemical Disclosure Data from FracFocus -- a system created and maintained by ALL Consulting.

FracFocus is a voluntary industry chemical disclosure system that can be used for a variety of data gathering purposes. It uses XML files, has searchable data options and includes data validation. This system facilitates a range of analyses, and allows for connectivity to other data sets like GIS data sets for more diverse analyses. There have been over 65,000 disclosures uploaded to FracFocus, which can then be used to analyze water, proppant and chemical use. One can make comparisons of data by area, operator, service company and more.

It can be used to do long term water usage data collection, and determine the volume of water waste per company, area, or time period. It can map out U.S. disclosure submittals and show where the top ten operators of oil and gas wells are located. It can help determine "hot spots" which can provide insight to well performance, fracturing, resourcing needs and level of activity.

This presentation was a part of PTAC's forum entitled: Hydraulic Fracturing in Western Canada: An Environmental Perspective. It took place in May 2014.
