Part 2 of 5
David Spiess, GIS Unit, Lead Engineer, for Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, continues his discussion the new Alberta Soil Information Viewer. He demonstrates how to navigate the site with regards to soil information of the land.
Spiess explains, once you have found the farm you are interested in, you will want to know more about the soil on the land.
The soil polygons, AGRASID polygons, are outlined to clearly show how the soils are mapped. When a polygon is clicked, the soil information shows up on screen. Key information is listed, such as: the number of hectares, coordinate position of land (longitude and latitude), AGRASID number, and soil series abbreviation.
This presentation was a part of the Alberta Soil Science Workshop: The Role of Soil in a Changing Climate, in February 2014.
