Part 2 of 2
Dave Coates, research silviculturist for the BC Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations, talks about understanding the recovery and self-organization of Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) impacted stands. He discusses the importance of understanding the factors needed to help forests regrow after an attack and the percentage of tree mortality after MPB attacks in B.C.
Coates addressed strategies to sustain the forest industry and the problems that are expected to exist in 15 to 35 years, and considers the factors involved in deciding whether an area of land should be actively restored, or left alone so it can restore itself.
This presentation was a part of the Mountain Pine Beetle Information Exchange Forum in April of 2014.
