Video - Soil moisture and hydrology in western Canada. Part 2. Presentation by John Pomeroy

Part 2 of 3

John Pomeroy is the Canadian Research Chair in Water Resources and Climate Change at the Center for Hydrology for the University of Saskatchewan. In this presentation he discusses the prairie hydrological cycle and explains the influence of temperature, soil composition and significant evapotranspiration.

The Cold Regions Hydrological Modelling Platform was created as a way to assemble models so the modelling can be completed based on the temperate climate of the prairies. He explains how frozen soils reduce infiltration of water into soil, agricultural drought is based on soil moisture, and hydrological flows are strongly influenced by soil moisture in drought. This presentation was a part of the Alberta Soil Science Workshop, February 2015.
