From the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI). A summary of results from a 2013 field study comparing reclaimed wellsites with adjacent reference locations in the Dry Mixedgrass Natural Subregion, using vegetation and soil indicators of recovery. For these indicators, wellsite development impacts were found to be significant and long-lasting.
These findings provide baseline information on differences between wellsite and reference locations that will aid in the development of an integrated, scientifically robust and financially sustainable monitoring program to enable the assessment of ecological recovery of certified reclaimed wellsites across Alberta.
