Kevin Heartwell, Alberta ESRD, talks about interim reclamation on forested wellsites. As part of their Fall Tour 2012, the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA) visited a Shell reclaimed wellsite west of Calgary.
In cooperation with West Fraser Timber Co., Shell is using coarse woody debris from active cut blocks in forest harvesting to speed wellsite reclamation. West Fraser now plants the trees for Shell, creating microsites that are planted for a variety of moisture conditions.
Limiting ATV access through removing smooth, open landscapes is another opportunity through using coarse woody debris and rough and lumpy contouring.
