Jay Mills, Vegetation Data Specialist with Jeodesy GIS, talks about LiDAR data and interpreting it for riparian vegetation. A fundamental point: our abilities to do scene interpretation cannot be matched by computer systems. With LiDAR data, he discusses some of the data that can be derived from the LiDAR primary data. Jay then describes quality control issues that cause data analysis to fall apart. LiDAR allows for rich data analysis but scale and pixel size needs to be considered before deciding whether the analysis will be valid.
Jay Mills' presentation was part of Foothills Research Institute's Water Program Workshop, Feb. 6, 2013.
