Kate Wilson, aquatic invasive species specialist for Environment and Sustainable Resources Development (ESRD), discusses aquatic invasive species (AIS) and the progress accomplished in 2014 in fighting them.
Wilson talks about the importance of prevention and management of AIS such as mussels, Northern Snakehead fish and Prussian Carp. She discusses how AIS are introduced to the environment in Alberta, and the advancements made in the last two years – such as the CMP 2012-13 prototype, and a mussel-sniffing dog trial project. Fisheries (Alberta) Act Amendments, including the creation of a prohibited species list, was also addressed. This presentation was a part of the Alberta Invasive Species Council Annual Conference and AGM, March 2015.
