Video: Sharing the Water Within the South Saskatchewan River Basin (Henning Bjornlund)

At the 2012 WPAC Summit, Dr. Henning Bjornlund, University of Lethbridge, provided a summary of water rights issues and trends in the South Saskatchewan River basin in Alberta. His presentation included surveys of water rights holders on various development scenarios.

In Part 1, he discusses the context from North American common law on water rights and some of the experience of Australia in water pricing.

In Part 2 of his presentation the the WPAC Summit 2012, Dr. Henning Bjornlund from the University of Lethbridge shows the results of surveys of irrigation managers and irrigation farmers in the South Sask River Basin (SSRB).

He compares and contrasts surveys in 2005, 2007 and 2012. As well, he compares and contrasts the intentions reported in surveys and what irrigation managers and irrigation farmers actually did in terms of water rights transfers.

Finally, he contrasts that with the opinions of urban residents in the SSRB.
