At the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada's Air Issues Forum, Sept. 20, 2012, panelists Dr. Matthew Johnson, Carleton University, Michael Layer, Natural Resources Canada and David Picard, Clearstone Engineering Ltd., summarize what air issues the oil and gas industry in Alberta and Canada should be focusing on.
- Dr. Johnson identifies fugitive emissions (fenceline) coming from US EPA's attention and methane and black carbon.
- Michael Layer identifies the rapid developments in the international scene. Canada's leadership in research is aging. With heavy oil as the resource of the future, greenfield development is an opportunity that Alberta and Canada can miss.
- David Picard identifies trace constituents in emission streams and what designers can do that works (and doesn't work). Energy efficiency also is highlighted as an international trend.
